Forethought Review, Pricing & Alternatives (2026)
AI support agents that resolve tickets across chat, email and voice, now owned by Zendesk
Last updated: October 26, 2026
What is Forethought?
Forethought builds AI agents for customer support. Solve resolves customer questions end to end with Autoflows, Triage routes tickets, Assist drafts replies for human agents and Discover finds knowledge gaps. Zendesk acquired the company in March 2026 and sells it as Forethought AI agents by Zendesk, which still work with other help desks. Pricing is by quote.
Forethought won TechCrunch Startup Battlefield in 2018, years before ChatGPT made AI customer service common, and went on to serve companies such as Upwork, Grammarly, Airtable and Datadog. TechCrunch reported that by 2025 it supported more than a billion customer interactions a month and had raised $115 million from investors including NEA, Blue Cloud Ventures and Sound Ventures. In March 2026 Zendesk agreed to buy Forethought and completed the deal on March 26. Zendesk now markets it as Forethought AI agents by Zendesk and says new customers can adopt it without using the Zendesk platform, so it still works with Salesforce and other help desks.
The platform is organized as a set of agents. Solve is the customer-facing AI agent for chat, mobile, email, voice and Slack. It detects intent and resolves issues with knowledge articles or Autoflows, which are agentic workflows that take actions such as looking up orders or resetting accounts through custom actions and APIs. Triage reads each incoming ticket, predicts intent, urgency and sentiment, and routes it to the right queue. Assist is a browser extension copilot that suggests workflows and drafts complete replies for human agents. Discover analyzes conversations to find missing articles and recurring issues, and it can generate new articles and Autoflows to fill those gaps.
Forethought also measures quality. AI QA scores conversations handled by AI agents against customizable rubrics, and Agent QA does the same for human agents, covering resolution quality, grammar and empathy, so supervisors can review every ticket instead of a sample. The Analytics API exports conversation-level data, including deflection, CSAT, intent and handoff patterns, to business intelligence tools. Multibrand lets one deployment serve up to 20 brands with separate tone and workflows. Under Zendesk, the roadmap adds the Resolution Learning Loop for self-improving agents, native voice automation and computer use for enterprise systems that lack APIs, according to Zendesk's acquisition announcement.
Forethought does not publish prices. Its pricing page lists three plans. Team includes AI agents for chat and mobile, Autoflows, custom actions, CSAT collection, triage models, multilingual support and AI QA with one rubric. Professional adds AI agents for email, voice and Slack, AI-surfaced insights, multibrand management and five QA rubrics. Enterprise adds the Solve API, knowledge and Autoflow gap detection, the Analytics API and enterprise security controls. Forethought describes its pricing as a blend of platform fees and outcome-based charges. Vendr reports that teams handling 10,000 to 50,000 tickets a month often see annual contracts between $50,000 and $150,000.
Forethought's strengths are mature support automation with years of production data, Autoflows that take real actions, a full suite covering resolution, routing, agent assist and QA, help desk neutrality and the backing of Zendesk. Its weaknesses are quote-only pricing aimed at mid-size and large teams, uncertainty about how the product will change as Zendesk merges it with its own AI agents, and setup work for complex workflows. Decagon and Sierra are fast-growing AI agent startups. Intercom Fin charges per resolution. Ada focuses on automated resolution across channels. Zendesk AI covers native Zendesk users. Choose Forethought if you want proven AI agents that work beyond one help desk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Zendesk buy Forethought?
Yes. Zendesk announced a definitive agreement to acquire Forethought on March 11, 2026 and completed the acquisition on March 26, 2026. The product is now sold as Forethought AI agents by Zendesk. Zendesk says existing customers keep uninterrupted service and new customers can adopt it without the Zendesk platform.
How much does Forethought cost?
Forethought does not publish prices. It sells Team, Professional and Enterprise plans by quote, with a blend of platform fees and outcome-based charges. Vendr reports that teams handling 10,000 to 50,000 tickets a month often see annual contracts between $50,000 and $150,000, depending on channels and features.
What is Forethought Solve?
Solve is Forethought's customer-facing AI agent. It works across chat, mobile, email, voice and Slack, detects what a customer needs and resolves it with knowledge articles or Autoflows, which are agentic workflows that can call APIs to check orders, update accounts or process requests before handing off to a human.
Does Forethought work with Salesforce?
Yes. Forethought connects to help desks, knowledge bases and CRMs, including Salesforce, and Zendesk says Forethought AI agents work across any platform, not only Zendesk. Assist runs as a browser extension inside the agent's help desk, and Triage tags and routes tickets in the connected system.
Forethought or Decagon, which is better?
Both offer AI agents that resolve support tickets with actions, not only answers. Forethought has a longer track record, a full suite with Triage, Assist, Discover and QA, and Zendesk's backing. Decagon is a newer startup focused on agent operating procedures written in plain language. Compare resolution rates in a pilot.
