Atlassian Rovo Review, Pricing & Alternatives (2026)
AI search, chat and agents across Jira, Confluence and connected work apps
Last updated: October 26, 2026
What is Atlassian Rovo?
Atlassian Rovo is the AI layer inside Jira, Confluence, Loom and Jira Service Management. It searches across Atlassian and connected apps, answers questions in chat, and runs agents that triage work items, draft pages and automate workflows. Rovo is included in paid Atlassian cloud plans, with a monthly pool of Rovo credits and extra usage billed from December 2026.
Rovo is Atlassian's AI product, announced in April 2024 and made available to all paid cloud customers in 2025. Atlassian, the Australian-founded company behind Jira, Confluence, Trello, Loom and Bitbucket, built Rovo on its Teamwork Graph, which maps the relationships between people, projects, pages, tickets and code across Atlassian apps and connected tools such as Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, Microsoft SharePoint and Figma. The goal is to give teams one place to find and act on company knowledge without leaving their work apps. Rovo is not sold as a separate product. It turns on automatically for organizations with Standard, Premium or Enterprise cloud plans on a verified business domain.
Rovo has four main parts. Search finds pages, work items, files and conversations across Atlassian and connected apps, respecting each source's permissions. Chat answers questions with citations, summarizes projects and drafts content, with a Think Deeper mode for longer reasoning. Agents are specialized helpers that groom Jira backlogs, organize Confluence spaces, review content against style rules, or resolve service requests. Atlassian ships ready-made agents and lets teams build their own in Rovo Studio, which was expanded at Team '26 in May 2026 to recommend agents, automations or apps from a plain description of a problem. Apps, in beta, generate custom Forge apps from a single prompt.
Rovo also reaches beyond Atlassian's own interface. The Atlassian Rovo MCP server and Teamwork Graph CLI let tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents read and update Jira and Confluence data, and Studio agents can connect to outside skills over MCP. Developers have a separate product, Rovo Dev, which includes a terminal coding agent and a Jira Coding Agent that turns work items into pull requests. Atlassian uses models from several providers and lets admins choose models for advanced agents. Atlassian cites customer results such as Mercedes-Benz using agents to clean duplicate defects, figures that come from its own case studies.
Rovo is included in paid cloud plans through credits pooled across the organization. Jira and Confluence include 25 credits per user a month on Standard, 70 on Premium and 150 on Enterprise. Teamwork Collection and Service Collection include 250, 700 and 1,500. Rovo Search, inline summaries and rewrites are free. A basic chat message or simple agent call costs 10 credits, while advanced agents, Confluence AI slides and the Jira Coding Agent cost variable credits. Atlassian says extra usage billing for Rovo credits starts December 3, 2026, enabled by default, with spending limits and alerts at 80 and 100 percent of the allowance.
Rovo's main advantage is context. Because it reads Jira, Confluence and Loom natively, it can answer questions about project status and ownership that general assistants cannot. Its drawbacks are cost uncertainty under the new credit model, a requirement for Atlassian cloud plans and a smaller set of connectors than dedicated enterprise search. Glean is the closest rival for company-wide AI search and agents across hundreds of apps. Microsoft 365 Copilot suits organizations built on Teams and SharePoint. Notion AI and ClickUp Brain serve teams that run work in those apps. Choose Rovo if Jira and Confluence are where your work already lives.
Who is Atlassian Rovo best for?
- Teams that run projects in Jira and documentation in Confluence.
- Service desks automating request triage and resolution.
- Admins who want AI agents without separate licenses.
- Developers connecting Claude or coding agents to Jira through MCP.

Technical Details
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Atlassian Rovo free?
Rovo has no separate price. It is included with Standard, Premium and Enterprise cloud plans of Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management and Atlassian's collections, with a monthly pool of Rovo credits. Rovo Search and inline summaries are free. From December 3, 2026, usage beyond the included credits is billed unless an admin turns it off.
How do Rovo credits work?
Each paid seat adds credits to an organization-wide pool: 25, 70 or 150 a month for Jira or Confluence Standard, Premium or Enterprise. A basic Rovo Chat message or simple agent call costs 10 credits, and advanced agents cost variable amounts. Credits reset monthly and do not roll over. Admins get alerts at 80 and 100 percent.
Rovo or Glean, which is better?
Rovo is the better fit for teams centered on Jira and Confluence, since it reads Atlassian data natively and comes included in paid plans. Glean connects to more business apps, offers deeper enterprise search and is sold separately at enterprise prices. Companies with knowledge spread across many tools beyond Atlassian often choose Glean.
Can I use Rovo with Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. The Atlassian Rovo MCP server and Teamwork Graph CLI let Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents search, read and update Jira and Confluence content. Simple lookups and write operations are free, while enriched cross-product queries consume roughly 1 to 10 Rovo credits per call, according to Atlassian.
What is the difference between Rovo and Rovo Dev?
Rovo is the AI layer for all Atlassian users, covering search, chat and agents across work apps. Rovo Dev is Atlassian's developer product, including a terminal coding agent, code review in Bitbucket and GitHub, and a Jira Coding Agent that turns work items into code changes. Rovo Dev uses Rovo credits and has its own plans.
