Strengths and limits

Respeecher

  • Hollywood credits including The Mandalorian, The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez.
  • Voice talent receives at least 25% of revenue, which simplifies consent questions.
  • Pay-as-you-go credits with no subscription and a year to use them.
  • The self-serve library of about 40 voices is small compared with ElevenLabs.
  • Custom voice cloning runs through managed projects quoted case by case.
  • Free trial audio cannot be used in published work.

WellSaid Labs

  • Every voice comes from a consenting actor who earns royalties, which simplifies legal review.
  • Unlimited regeneration on paid plans means you only pay for audio you download.
  • Word-level pitch, pace and pause controls plus pronunciation suggestions reduce re-records.
  • SOC 2 and GDPR compliance with SSO and admin roles for enterprise rollouts.
  • No instant voice cloning, dubbing or sound effects compared with ElevenLabs.
  • Non-English voices, translation and 96 kHz audio are locked to Enterprise.
  • Minute allowances on Starter are tight for anyone producing weekly content.

Which should you choose?

Choose Respeecher if

  • Film and TV productions that need to de-age, recreate or re-voice an actor convincingly.
  • Game studios replacing or extending a voice actor's lines with the estate's consent.

  • Brands that require every synthetic voice to come from a paid, consenting speaker.

Look elsewhere if

  • Creators who want to clone their own voice instantly from a short sample.
  • YouTubers looking for a large voice library on a monthly subscription.
  • Teams needing dubbing into many languages from one upload.

Choose WellSaid Labs if

  • Learning and development teams producing English training modules at a large company.
  • Regulated industries whose legal teams require voices licensed from consenting, paid actors.
  • Marketing teams that want a consistent brand narrator across product and explainer videos.
  • Scripts heavy with medical or legal terms that other engines mispronounce.

Look elsewhere if

  • Creators who want instant voice cloning from a short audio sample.
  • Teams that need many non-English languages without negotiating an Enterprise contract.
  • Hobbyists who need more than three free minutes a month to test properly.

Respeecher logo Respeecher in brief

Respeecher was founded in Kyiv in 2017 by Alex Serdiuk, Dmytro Bielievtsov and Grant Reaber, and it now lists its headquarters in Burbank, California, close to the studios it serves. It became known for recreating the young Luke Skywalker's voice in Disney+'s The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and for reviving the voice of the late Polish actor Miłogost Reczek for CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. More recent work includes refining Hungarian pronunciation for Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones in The Brutalist and enhancing songs in Emilia Pérez. The World Economic Forum named it a 2025 Technology Pioneer. PitchBook records a $14 million Series A in September 2025 and about 46 employees. The company kept operating from Ukraine through the Russian invasion, a story Forbes and the Kyiv Independent have covered.

Respeecher's core technology is speech-to-speech conversion. An actor records a line with the timing and emotion the director wants, and the system re-voices it as a target speaker while keeping the performance intact. That makes it different from text-to-speech tools, which have to guess at delivery. Respeecher sells this three ways. The AI Voice Lab is a managed service in which the company's sound engineers clean source audio, train a custom voice and deliver finished tracks for a production. The Voice Marketplace is a self-serve web app with more than 40 licensed voices, speech-to-speech and text-to-speech, plus a plugin for Avid Pro Tools so audio editors can work inside their usual software. Respeecher Space is a developer API for streaming text-to-speech into voice agents and apps.

Respeecher's Marketplace is small next to ElevenLabs, which offers thousands of voices, instant cloning from a short sample, dubbing and sound effects at lower subscription prices. Custom voices of a specific person go through the managed Voice Lab, so there is no quick do-it-yourself cloning of your own voice. Resemble AI used to be its closest rival for consent-based cloning, but in August 2026 Resemble stopped selling voice generation to new customers and moved to deepfake detection. WellSaid Labs shares the licensed-voice approach but focuses on text-to-speech for corporate training. Pick Respeecher for film, television, games or advertising work where an actor's performance has to be re-voiced convincingly and every voice needs a clear legal chain of consent. Pick ElevenLabs for fast, inexpensive voiceover and cloning.

WellSaid Labs logo WellSaid Labs in brief

WellSaid Labs spun out of the Allen Institute for AI's incubator in Seattle in 2018 and now operates from Bellevue, Washington under the shorter brand WellSaid. It raised a $10 million Series A in 2021 and later took venture debt instead of more equity. The company says more than half of the Fortune 500 use it, naming LinkedIn, T-Mobile, ServiceNow and Accenture as customers. Leadership has changed often: founder Matt Hocking moved to chairman, Brian Cook ran the company next, and former CFO Benjamin Dorr became chief executive in May 2025. The business positions itself against ElevenLabs on trust. Every stock voice comes from a consenting actor who earns royalties on the revenue that voice generates, so customers get commercial rights without wondering whose recordings trained the model.

Work happens in WellSaid Studio, a browser editor where you paste or upload a script (.txt, .pdf or .docx), split it into sections, pick a voice from 280-plus options and render. Word-level controls adjust pitch, pace, pauses and loudness, and you can mix several voices in one script for dialogue. A pronunciation toolbar suggests respellings for acronyms, brand names and borrowed words, and the company says it covers more than 9,000 medical and 500 legal terms out of the box. Audition, added in August 2026, lets you describe the voice you want in plain words and returns ranked matches read in your own script. Teams share projects in workspaces with collaborator and billing-admin roles. Finished audio exports to Adobe Express on Pro and to Premiere Pro on Business, and the API covers product integrations.

WellSaid's narrow focus is also its main limitation. The library is smaller than ElevenLabs, which offers thousands of community and cloned voices across 70-plus languages from $5 a month, and it lacks instant cloning, dubbing and sound effects. Murf AI covers similar training and marketing voiceover with more languages on self-serve plans and slide-sync tools for presentations. WellSaid's per-minute cost is higher than either at the lower tiers, and the most useful features (all languages, 96 kHz, SSO) are on Enterprise. Where it wins is procurement: legal and compliance teams at banks, hospitals and insurers can sign off on actor-licensed voices with clear royalties far faster than on a cloned or community voice. Choose WellSaid if you produce English training or product content at a large company. Choose ElevenLabs or Murf if you need breadth, cloning or many languages on a budget.
