Vincent AI is a legal research and drafting assistant made by vLex, which became part of Clio after the acquisition completed on 2025-11-10. vLex says Vincent was introduced in 2018 and launched globally in 2024, while an independent VLAIR report describes an October 2023 release. The product targets law firms and legal teams rather than casual chatbot users. It retrieves from vLex's editorially enriched library, which vLex describes as containing more than one billion documents across 110 jurisdictions. vLex merged with Fastcase in 2023, placing Vincent within a larger legal research business. The 2026 branding is Vincent by Clio/vLex, and the service remains active after the acquisition.

Vincent starts with a question, document or other source material, then retrieves relevant material from vLex's legal library and produces cited research or analysis. It can build arguments, compare cases and contracts, summarize documents, draft text, redline files, translate content, analyze transcripts and audio or video, and create tables. Agentic Mode plans and executes multi-step workflows. Users can work through Word with native Track Changes in beta, mobile capture and voice, Legal Pad, and connectors for iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint and Google Drive. Optional web search labels web sources separately. Vincent Studio, generally available to Enterprise customers in January 2026, lets publishers create governed Workflows, Tasks and Steps without code.

Vincent is model-agnostic rather than tied to one selectable model. It automatically selects among OpenAI, Google Gemini and Anthropic models, then wraps them in vLex retrieval-augmented generation. Spring 2025 brought an agentic engine, Vincent Tables, General Assist and model upgrades. Winter 2025 added multimodal audio and video work, six Docket Alarm litigation workflows, and coverage for Hong Kong, Italy, Peru and Ecuador, bringing the claimed total to 17 countries. January 2026 brought general availability for Vincent Studio. March added a refreshed interface, Legal Pad and document-management integrations. April added Agentic Mode, mobile access, an SEC filings workflow, Authority Match and desktop voice. Later releases added Word beta, web search, full-document translation, firm Skills, persistent memory and conversation statuses.

Vincent has no public USD price card, annual price, monthly price, message quota or universal document limit. vLex says Vincent historically could not be bought alone and had to be purchased alongside another product. Current support directs prospects to a personalized demo or structured trial, while order-form customers pay negotiated amounts. Older vLex pricing material describes subscriptions as generally annual, with a minimum 12-month term, but vLex does not publish a current Vincent price. Docket Alarm document views include a number of free weekly views under a Vincent subscription, while extensive review may require separate Docket Alarm access. The practical buying process is quote-based, and costs can vary by jurisdiction, content and firm size.

Citations and retrieval do not remove the need for legal verification. A Nevada Bar review scored Vincent 36.5 out of 50 and reported missed administrative decisions, generic multi-state answers, complex-query accuracy issues, and limited integration and customization. VLAIR testing produced task scores from 53.6% to 72.7%, with Vincent sometimes refusing when its corpus lacked support. Westlaw Precision AI offers Westlaw's incumbent research workflow, while Lexis+ AI provides LexisNexis content and Shepard's. Harvey offers broader bespoke legal-work automation, whereas Vincent centers cited retrieval from a licensed legal database. Firms needing global research and configurable legal workflows should pick Vincent.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Vincent AI cost?

Vincent AI does not publish a current USD monthly or annual price. vLex directs prospects to a personalized demo or structured trial, and order-form customers pay negotiated amounts. Pricing can vary by jurisdiction, content and firm size. Older vLex material describes annual subscriptions with a minimum 12-month term, but it does not provide a current Vincent price.

Does Vincent AI have a free plan?

Vincent AI does not publish a general free plan. Prospects can request a personalized demo or structured trial. Under a Vincent subscription, Docket Alarm document views include a number of free views per week, while extensive review may require separate Docket Alarm access. That allowance is not a free Vincent tier.

How does Vincent compare with Westlaw Precision AI?

Westlaw Precision AI centers Thomson Reuters' Westlaw corpus and incumbent research workflow. Vincent centers vLex's global library, retrieval-augmented answers, cross-jurisdiction reasoning, multimodal inputs and configurable Studio workflows. Both require source checking. The better choice depends on the firm's preferred content collection, workflow integrations, jurisdictional needs and procurement relationship.

Does Vincent AI train on user data?

vLex says prompts and documents are sent through zero-data-retention endpoints, are not used to train foundation models, and are discarded by model providers after processing. Vincent can retain account and conversation information under customer policy. Persistent memory follows the account retention policy, so firms remain responsible for permissions, retention and confidentiality controls.

Can firms use Vincent AI commercially?

Commercial legal use is Vincent's core positioning for law firms and legal teams. The service supports enterprise arrangements, integrations and governed workflows. Firms remain responsible for checking outputs and managing confidentiality, privilege, retention and permissions. Vincent is proprietary, and enterprise deployment can use multi-tenant or single-tenant arrangements rather than customer self-hosting the complete platform.
